St Patrick’s Day 2013
Happy St Patrick’s Day to you! Whether you are observing this religious day, celebrating being Irish or your Irish ancestry, or just plain love this day we thought we’d celebrate along with you the only way we know how – with tea!
Today we tasted 3 different brands and qualities, starting with the Twinings brand for the tea drinker who buys their tea from the local grocery store (usually someone who is not as well versed in the world of tea with regards to the differences in the processing methods and gradings). We chose to infuse Twinings Irish Breakfast, of course! Aptly suited for a day like today indeed! This tea had a rich auburn brown colour, great clarity and a fruit tinged aroma. A nice way to begin your morning with this cuppa as it is a ‘softer’ blend of the aromatic blends of black teas available (or suitable for morning tea with some biscuits).
We then chose a tea by SereniTEA suited to the more educated tea drinker. Continuing the ‘green’ theme synonymous with St Patrick’s Day we chose to brew their Peppermint herbal infusion: Its scent was deliciously peppermint, it had a strong amber colour and great clarity too. Perhaps ideal to ‘Sit Sip and Savour‘ just before bed for your tummy after all those pints of beer on a day like today.
For our discerning and sophisticated tea enthusiasts, we chose to brew one of our favourite teas, Jasmine Pearls by Tea &Sympathy. This tea was refreshingly light and cleansing, had a balanced infusion of jasmine and green tea, and also had a beautiful delicate aroma and exceptional clarity: Perfect for the morning after your celebrative St Patrick’s Day to cleanse and nurse your taste buds back to normal.
(*Look at just how beautiful this tea is before it is even infused!)
We wish to acknowledge the roots of today’s celebration stem from the religious observance of the anniversary of the death of Saint Patrick. So as not to trivialise the earnestness of this, we leave you with the opening verse of Saint Patrick’s Breastplate (prayer):
“I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.”
