Easter 2013
Happy Easter! Although Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, its cultural traditions are also celebrated by many in a secular society. Here at https://internationalteareview.com what better way to celebrate it than with our own Easter themed afternoon tea, of course!
It is difficult to pinpoint the origins of hot cross buns. Some believe this tradition emerged from the ancient Greeks who marked the bun with a cross (presumably to signify Christ’s crucifixion). Others believe its origins lie outside of religion and within pagan roots with the cross symbolising the four quarters of the moon. In more recent times during Easter, it is believed the buns were traditionally eaten at breakfast time, hot from the oven (and perhaps where the saying “hot cross buns” emerged from). We suggest these deliciously fruity and spicy buns would be well paired with a good blend spicy Chai tea.
In general, eggs symbolise rebirth, fertility and new life. In Christianity at Easter time, the egg is thought to nowadays symbolise Christ’s resurrection and new life. Some believe the egg originally represented the stone rolled from Christ’s tomb. Once again, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly when the tradition of giving Easter eggs came into existence, other than to state chocolate eggs were first made in Europe in the early part of the 19th Century [ http://www.cadbury.com.au/about-chocolate/the-story-of-easter-and-easter-eggs.aspx ]. A high grade Darjeeling tea would well compliment your chocolate eggs at Easter time.
This year, we decided to add some variance to our Easter celebrations with some Easter cupcakes (vanilla cupcakes with a cream centre atop with a solid Easter egg and chocolate shavings) and our favourite, Easter eggs filled with chocolate mousse served with vanilla cake marinated in brandy, freshly whipped cream and a good sprinkle of chocolate shavings. Yum! An aromatic black tea blend (such as, a good quality Earl Grey blend) would pair well with either of these treats after your Easter lunch.
We wish you all a Happy and safe Easter.
